How to use the tweet downloader

  1. Copy a public post link

    Open the post on Twitter or X and copy its link from the share menu. Use the specific post URL rather than an account profile, search page, or media URL.

  2. Review the full post

    Paste the link into the tweet downloader and choose Get tweet. Check the author, source link, date, and uncollapsed text before exporting.

  3. Choose TXT or JSON

    Download TXT for a simple readable file, or download JSON when you need structured tweet data for a script, archive, or later conversion.

What the tweet downloader saves

The tweet downloader keeps the normalized text returned by the public source, including long posts when the source provides a separate long-text field. It also preserves the author name and handle when available, the source date, the canonical post link, metrics that are actually returned, and references to attached photos or MP4 variants.

Media references are links, not a hidden copy of the media file. A remote image or video URL may expire. Use the Twitter image downloader when you need photo files, or the Twitter video downloader when you need a playable MP4.

TXT versus JSON export

TXT for reading and notes

The TXT file places the author, date, source, full text, and media references in a format that opens in any text editor. It is easy to attach to a note or keep beside a research folder.

JSON for structured data

The JSON file keeps the normalized object shape used by TwiFlux, including string IDs, nullable metadata, media arrays, and the fetch timestamp. It is useful when another local tool will parse the tweet downloader output.

Yes. The tweet downloader retrieves one public post and lets you save its full text as TXT or its normalized data as JSON without an account or paid API.

Does the tweet downloader keep the full text?

The tweet downloader uses the long-text field when the source provides one and expands short links found in the post. It does not intentionally truncate the text. A post that is unavailable to public access cannot be recovered.

What is included in the TXT file?

The TXT export includes the author, source date, source link, full post text, and available image or MP4 media references. It is a readable handoff for notes or local storage.

Why would I choose JSON instead of TXT?

Choose JSON when you want structured fields such as the post ID, author handle, timestamps, metrics, media arrays, and fetched time. Choose TXT when you want a simple file that opens in any text editor.

Does the tweet downloader save images and videos too?

The tweet downloader records the media references returned with the post; it does not package remote media bytes. Use the Twitter image downloader for photo files or the Twitter video downloader for MP4 formats.
